CRAFT CHAOS 2019 - MASTER CRAFTER GAYATRI MURALI
Hey there crafty people.
I am Anu & today I am here to introduce you all to a
"Master Cardmaker"
GAYATRI MURALI
We did a Q&A session with her to know her better!
Read her story & her journey below
My Name is Gayatri Murali. I live in Perth, Australia. I am from India originally.
Are you a full time crafter ?
I
call myself Home Secretary of my home. I look after everything at home
and outside of it as well. I dislike the terms "housewife" or "stay at
home mother" because those terms instantly produces negative attitude
among people and there is an instant "Oh you don't work then?" response
and thereafter belittle you. Work at home is as important as outside
work and is very less recognised. I used to work for a living earlier
but having trained in psychology, I decided to put it to good use at
home. So becoming a home secretary is MY choice and I take pride in
doing so. Having said that I am full time crafter. I started making
cards as a hobby which it still is but I also work as design team and
guest team for brands.
Your style of crafting ? Which is your favorite form of craft ?
I am a card maker. My style of cardmaking is clean and simple with a
technique of two. I love bright colours, floral and geometric designs.
But I do not hesitate to try trends and experiment as long as it does
not take long time or complicated.
Any craft brand you own ?
Owning
my brand is my dream. One day I like to have one. At the moment I
prefer the creation process than the manufacturing process.
When did you started your crafting journey ?
And what was the first thing you created ?(if you remember)
I
started very long time ago. I bet it was 14 or 15 years ago. I was a
scrapbooker to start with. For a few years I only did scrapbook
layouts. Then I became Stampin' Up demonstrator. But then discovered
clear stamps through Papertrey Ink. Now I am a full time cardmaker and
never looked back.
From where your draw the inspiration for your art ?
The
inspiration comes from everywhere. I take inspirations from a
billboard, advertisement, Pinterest, fellow cardmakers, Videos,
instagram, Facebook, magazines, fashion, beauty, home decor or just new
products. You name it, you got it. I also have done a bit of interior
designing and so that influences me in terms of colour choices and
balance elements on my cards. I do have a little note book which I keep
in my card and hand bag so I can sketch for my release projects or
assignments on the go. My brain is always on overdrive when it comes to
inspiration.
What/ who motivates you the most to keep working ?
It
is the cardmaking community and my personal passion for cardmaking. The
community is super supportive of each other. That is a great motivation
to feed my passion for cardmaking.
Any major achievements you would like to mention ?
My
achievements are my design team work I have done and doing for many
years. At the moment I design for Simon Says Stamp, Taylored
Expressions, Mudra Stamps and guest design for Altenew. Previously I
have designed for many brands and challenges. My work has been published
in Magazines in the US and Australia.
Anything you would like to tell people about yourself and about your art, your hobbies , likes dislikes anything.
Well,
Enjoy what you do. And do YOU. Never compare or compete. Be part of the
community and support the community. Do not feel the need to be part of
everything that is happening and feel the need to own every new
product, ink, tool or paper. All this will overwhelm you. Find your
style and stick to it. Do your best with it and be consistent.
Everything will come to you.
